Tips

Form Follows Meaning, Not Spanish “Se”

  1. El español sí tiene formas reflexivas, pero su distribución no coincide palabra por palabra con el inglés. “Se” no activa automáticamente -self.
  2. Como objeto reflexivo, la forma suele ir después del verbo o de una preposición: she saw herself; he spoke to himself. Como intensivo, puede quedar junto al sujeto o más tarde: she herself checked it / she checked it herself.
  3. By + reflexive expresa solo/sin ayuda: by myself. No significa que toda forma después de una preposición sea reflexiva.
